Soldiers attending the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy can now position those coursework hours toward incomes a bachelor’s degree to carry “enlisted education as much as par with officer training.”
Charles Guyette, director of coverage and governance for NICOLE, instructed Army Times that this is the “first time any NCO path could be authorized to a degree software.”
David Crozier, Director of Command Communications on the NCO Leadership Center of Excellence, instructed Task & Purpose that there are “92 students in the modern class as a way to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Leadership and Workforce Development” (LWD).
“This is an ancient occasion for the NCO Corps,” Crozier said. “And will set the degree for all of our NCO Professional Development System courses to observe the same course, college accreditation. … Taking university instructions at night to earn a diploma is one aspect, but being capable of earning the degree even as taking an NCO PME course is something quite distinct.”
The 10-month course comes out to forty-seven credit score hours, consistent with the Army’s announcement — a bit over a third of the required hundred and twenty hours to earn a bachelor’s diploma. The 47 hours hit four focus areas: Leadership, Military Decision Sciences, Training Program Management, and Communication Skills.
